If the numbers at the vertices of the square are A,B,C,D
The pattern is:
(A^2+B^2)-(C^2+D^2)=The number in the center of the square.
First square
(4^2+8^2)-(2^2+6^2)=(16+64)-(4+36)=80-40=40
Second square
(5^2+9^2)-(7^2+3^2)=(25+81)-(49+9)=106-56=50
Third square
(8^2+5^2)-(2^2+7^2)=(64+25)-(4+49)=89-53=36
Correct answer is 36
